Sen. Jeff Flake said Sunday he hasn’t ruled out a White House run in 2020 — and would do so as a Republican.
In an interview on NBC News’ the Arizona Republican — a frequent critic of President Donald Trump — said he hoped “somebody runs on the Republican side other than the president.”
“It’s not in my plan, but I have not ruled anything out,” Flake said of the prospect of making a White House bid.
“I do hope somebody runs on the Republican side other than the president — if nothing else simply to remind Republicans what conservatism is and what Republicans have traditionally stood for.”
Pressed on whether he’d only run as a Republican, Flake replied “I think so. I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
In his at Harvard Law School last Wednesday, Flake said Trump had “debased" the presidency with his "bottomless appetite for destruction and degradation."
